About Us

In January 2009, a clarion call sounded, rousing alumni of the Ramon Magsaysay High School – Manila (RMHS) to respond to a grand vision and noble mission of giving back to the alma mater and to the future generations RMHS students. Dr. Cesar Agtarap, (Batch 1976), now US-based, sent out this message to RMHS alumni far and wide:

“In gratitude to RMHS, the Alumni Tree project offers a unique opportunity to give back and at the same time, be recognized. “PUNO NG TAGUMPAY” has three objectives: 1) To raise funds to support various RMHS projects 2) To inspire the young idealistic students 3) to acknowledge the successful careers of alumni.

Unfortunately, not all of us belong to the “Outstanding Alumni of the Year.” Even so, we are still successful in our own right. No matter how accomplished the alumni, the glimmer of the awards will only shine during the Alumni night. They all fade and alas, forgotten with the dimming of the stage lights….Not with the Alumni Tree…. Each leaf means a lot — it is your connection from the past to the future. This Tree can go on forever as new leaves are added with alumni reaching new heights of greatness….. Please do your part. Nourish the Tree, because with your help, RMHS will flourish.

And thus the the Alumni Tree Project (ATP) was born, conceptualized by grateful and committed alumni of RMHS-Manila, as their way of giving back to society, the school, and to students, what they have successfully reaped in their personal and professional lives, in support of the culture of excellence that the school has consistently championed over the years. ATP started as a project spearheaded by a small group of RMHS graduates, later on adopted as a program by the RMHS Alumni Association in 2009. To ensure continuity and good governance, and to establish a permanent entity that will implement ATP’s vision, the “Alumni Tree Project– RMHS, Manila, Inc.” was incorporated in 2010. It is now a non-stock, non-profit organization duly registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).

In 2010, the ATP commenced with an inaugural group of 8 high school students. By the following school year in 2011, the program had already expanded to support 30 scholars. In 2012, as the high school scholars transitioned to college, they advocated for the ATP to broaden its scholarship initiative, resulting in the inclusion of an additional 8 students, bringing the total number of ATP scholars to 38. Thus the program has expanded significantly to the extended support program for college education which saw its first successful scholars graduate with college degrees in 2016.

When the K-12 curriculum came into effect in the Philippine educational system, the ATP proved flexible as it added two more years and more scholars to its program, bringing the total to 70 by 2016. As of the beginning of school year 2022-2023, there were 103 scholars in the program, of whom 30 were in junior high school, 26 were in senior high school, and 47 were in college.

“We will make a difference in the lives of underprivileged but deserving students of RMHS-Manila through relevant and holistic scholarship programs”

“To provide financial assistance and conduct relevant learning and development programs to enhance the socio-civic consciousness of students and help them become responsible citizens of the country.”
